Parent Teacher Conferences for Trimester 2 is scheduled for Friday, January 14th from 12:00 to 2:45pm.
Once again this year, we are asking that parents register for a conference with the teachers that they want to meet with. Given our safety protocols, in light of the pandemic, all sessions with teachers will be conducted virtually.
To streamline the scheduling, we are using the website PTCFast.com. This will make signups convenient and allow you to see the available times to meet with teachers.
To register for a conference, use the following directions: Please enter the following web address into your browser window: https://ptcfast.com/schools/Caribou_High_School_1
Select your student’s teacher(s) that you wish to meet with, and choose your conference time. If these times do not work for you, please email your students' teacher and set up a mutually agreed upon time to have a conference if you wish to do so.
If you have limited internet access and wish to schedule a conference, please contact the school via phone at 207-493-4260 and we can assist you. It is our hope that this way of scheduling makes it easier for everyone involved. We look forward to “seeing” you (virtually) on Parent Teacher Conference Day.

Don't Forget! Early Dismissal this Friday, January 14th!

Message from Mr. Pinette, CHS Guidance Director.
Caribou High School has started a Winter Academy where credits can be made up for failed classes either during a student's study hall or after school hours. The failing grade must have at least be a 50 or higher. This would keep a student from having to repeat the entire required course. Please sign up in the Guidance Office.
If you have any questions please contact Mr. Pinette in the Guidance Office (207-493-4260).

The Caribou High School Girls JV game schedule for today (1/4/22) at Presque Isle has been postponed. The Caribou at Presque Isle Girls Varsity game at 7:00 is still on as scheduled.

Viking Weekly-Hello Viking Nation!-
Happy New Year! The New Year brings a time when people create a plan to improve. When watching our athletes compete, I’m quick to notice and reflect on the plan that our coaches have for our athletes and for the teams that they coach. Having an effective plan takes a vision. The vision is the end result, often looking at tools to help the student athletes work hard, learn skills, and improve all while doing what is best for the TEAM. As the season progresses, we see the plan unfold often in ways that we, as fans, couldn't see taking shape. Our coaches and student athletes are working so hard with the guidance of the coaching staff who put in so much time to work with these young athletes to help them improve their craft and become better people.
The Nordic ski team is improving and looking forward to upcoming competition with great snow conditions! The Alpine Ski team had some great training over break and is looking to move the momentum forward with meets this week! The Wrestling team has shown steady growth while putting up some great success on the mat. Their work ethic is also noticed throughout Caribou High School with their cleaning-up prior to practice and returning the cafeteria to order after practice. The Cheering squad has been preparing for upcoming competitions and has been a big help at home events helping with concessions and offering support for teams. The Boys Basketball teams have been having some great practices and are starting to put the pieces together against some tough competition. The Girls Basketball teams have been getting comfortable with their offense and the fun style of play that they are working on. The athletes are buying into the plan and working on their vision.
Winter weather is here in full force. If we have to cancel practices and events we will send out the information via our app. Parent’s please make sure you’re registered for the RSU #39 app. The app can be received on android and apple devices. Viking Weekly-Hello Viking Nation!
Merriam Webster has the definition of compete as; to strive consciously or unconsciously for an objective (such as position or a prize) : be in a state of rivalry. When I see our teams on the trails, on the mats and on the court this winter, this is what I am seeing. Our kids are striving for an objective. Our student athletes have coaches that are having a positive impact on them and instilling hard work, skills, and what it means to be a part of a team.
Our wrestling team is off to a great start with our student athletes working hard in practice and translating that hard work onto the mat where they are showing great improvements when competing at a high level. The Alpine ski team showed great promise on Saturday in a race in Ft. Kent, and got to see area’s where they can improve. The cheering squad is working on fine tuning their routine for competitions that will be taking place in mid January. The Cheerleaders are also offering some pep and school spirit at our home games and assisting with the boosters club. The cheerleaders are working with Viktor, the Viking at home games as Viktor navigates the crowd and meets our fans! Viktor will be handing out stickers to fans and be available for photo opportunities! The nordic is anxiously awaiting their first competition! The Basketball teams are competing and working hard. The teams are showing some great potential and every game there are breakthroughs that bring out the fire of these kids competing.

This summer, Jonna Bouré attended a week-long trip around Acadian French sites in Maine with a dozen other French teachers. This experience motivated her to invite Noah Ouellette, a representative from the French consulate in Boston, to visit CHS and tour the region. Her AP students just completed a video short film about the Acadian experience and the French honor society students will be teaching French at CCS in January during Power Hour as part of their community service. Jonna's dedication to telling the story of Northern Maine Acadians caught the interest of the DOE who chose to interview her for the DOE Newsroom publication earlier this month.

Viking Weekly Hello Viking Nation!
Many teams got to compete for the first time this year in a regular season contest and it was great to have our teams in action! Teams are continuing to work hard and get productive practices in place. We do ask as we prepare for our first home contests that fans do follow our protocols and wear masks when at our gym for Basketball games. We also ask that if you are having ANY COVID-19 symptoms that you please watch the games from home. Home games will be broadcast on WHOU.live. WHOU will cover both JV and Varsity games!
The exciting news about our new, state of the art Viking was announced this week. We put out a poll to name the Viking. It’s great to have this be a student-led project and thanks to the leadership that is experienced in the JMG program, the athletic department was able to work with JMG students to create the poll to get feedback for naming the Viking. We will announce the name at our first home game on Tuesday! The Viking did make its first public appearance on Thursday at the Caribou Community School. Students were having theme week, and Thursday was Viking pride day. It was great to see our new Viking bring smiles to our future CHS Vikings.

Viking Weekly-Athletics-
Hello Viking Nation!
The regular season action will heat up this weekend! The Caribou Viking athletes have been hard at it practicing and preparing for the upcoming season. We were fortunate to be able to get in our winter athletic picture day last week! This week, teams are doing the seasonal meet the coaches night where parents have an opportunity to meet the coach and coaches go over the season and expectations with the parents and athletes in attendance. This is an important part of the season where parents can formally meet the coach, get contact information and learn the philosophy of our programs.
With the winter weather here in full force, we might be in positions where we have to cancel practices. If this happens, we will send out the information via our app. Parent’s please make sure you’re registered for the RSU #39 app. This app can be received on android and apple devices. Once you’ve downloaded the app, and signed up, you will get a notification on your device when information has been pushed out.
A friendly reminder that fans MUST be masked while at Caribou High School indoor events. Alpine events are at outside venues and the guidelines for those events will be based on the venue. Nordic events will allow fans and if people go into the ski building, masks will be required. Away events are different based on the host venue. When traveling, I will update the teams traveling and the community to inform you of the protocol and expectations when traveling to different venues.
Again, a friendly reminder to parents, please make sure that your student athlete is registered for this winter on www.caribouvikings.org. Schedules are updated on the athletics website.
