The Eastern Aroostook RSU39 has a fleet of
18 school
buses. Approximately 1800 students are transported daily to and from school. Our buses travel
in excess of 275,000 miles each school year carrying
a very precious cargo indeed!
We are very proud of our fleet of buses, and of the mechanics and drivers that maintain and drive
them. That pride is reflected by the high standards that we set
to maintain our vehicles. The Maine State Police inspect
our buses semi-annually and we look forward to these inspections
as a means to insure that all of our students are transported
as safely as possible. The Caribou School Department transportation staff
received recognition of having one of the top ten maintenance programs for
2003. The award is based on all the performance of all North America fleets.
Our drivers receive annual safety training.
They are afforded the opportunity to complete in driving skills
competitions at the local, county and state level. Caribou
has been fortunate to have drivers who continue to place very
high in these competitions. In years past, we had one driver compete at the national level.
Transportation Services is very active
with the Maine Association for Pupil Transportation (MAPT)
with our former Plant Superintendent, Mr. Fred Michaud, serving as a
past President of this organization.
Parents can be assured that their precious ones are safe
as they travel to and from school.
